Ben Cherrington, General Manager of the Boston Red Sox, announced today that the Red Sox April 1st season opening game against the New York Yankees will be moved to Montpelier, Vermont. He indicated that the decision for this action was the result of an overwhelming fan base that seems to be primarily CCV faculty and staff. He stated that over the past 10 years, the largest single sector of fan mail seemed to originate from 16 street addresses and one IP address in Vermont.
When his staff analyzed the addresses he realized they were all associated with current or past Community College of Vermont locations and its primary email server. In a phone conversation with CCV President Joyce Judy he asked if her employees simply have too much time on their hands or if the fan base is actually quite strong at the college. She replied that all CCV employees do have their hands full, and that she’d have institutional researcher, Laura Massell, verify if there are any outliers who support other teams – other than John McHugh and Elmer Kimball who are long-term terminally wrong minded baseball fans. Judy did inform Cherrington that parking might be a problem since Vermont’s legislature will still be in session, not because CCV has parking limitation in Montpelier. She was able to negotiate the opportunity to throw out the first pitch, and reduced price tickets for all CCV faculty, staff, and students. Go Red Sox!
